Wilderness of Mirrors

The play follows the life of a Yale student named James; from when he was recruited to the CIA, building a friendship with his recruiter named Robert, falling in love with Roberts niece named Christina, going to war, publishing his book, and his revenge/death on Robert for separating him from Christina. All this happens while his daughter named Erin is interviewing Robert, because she’s trying to find out what happened to her father.

It’s dark, suspenseful, and heartfelt. The design was to have everything in black/white and gray, while

Christina and Erin are in color and some color interwoven. This inspiration comes from several lines in the book; James describes silence as a gray room. However, the silence on this stage speaks just as much as the words, so the grays varies in depth and includes black/white. There is color interwoven with some people James interacts with, because another line in the play mentions he sees more colors and depth of the world.

Mrs. Packard

Mrs. Packard is play set in the late 1800’s It’s a true story about Elizabeth Packard’s stay in a mental hospital and her starting to want reform of laws set on women’s imprisonment by their husbands. As well, her court trial against her husband and the testimonies are intertwined with the play, showing two time lines at once.

The costumes designed for this play were focused on multiple parts. For one aspect, none of the actors ever left the stage. Another, everyone but a select few played multiple characters. Everyone but the sect few were inmates with their “base costume” and when they became another character they would put of a clean piece of clothing but their base was still seen. This would allow the idea that this issue of unlawful mental imprisonment affected everyone, even if they didn’t think so.
